What are foot thongs used for?
Some styles such as lyrical and contemporary are often performed barefoot. However, some moves, like turns are hard to perform without a ballet or jazz shoe. The foot, especially, when sweaty, sticks to the floor making it hard to perform the required step and can also put undue pressure on the knee. Therefore, dancers use foot thongs and half shoes! They are especially popular amongst rhythmic gymnast.
Foot thongs, toe thongs or toe undies have a leather sole and have holes for toes making it feel like dancing barefoot. Some foot thongs have holes dedicated for each toe and some have a separate hole for the big toe and the rest of the toes have another. The foot thongs can be decorated with rhinestones, but only the part that is on the foot so the stones wouldn’t disturb dancing.
How to choose the correct sized foot thongs?
Using a measuring tape, measure your foot circumference around the ball of the foot. If you don’t have a measuring tape then you can also use a string and a ruler. Measure around your foot at the widest point, usually where your toe joints meet your foot.
Sansha size L is suitable for a foot circumference of around 22cm.
